Evening of Durians!

Evening of Durians!
The durian, “King of the Fruits,” is so stinky that Bangkok and Singapore ban it from their trains. Fortunately, its taste is as good as its smell is bad. To reach the delicious fruit, you first need to cut through what looks like a thorny watermelon in a process that evokes birthing an alien. If you’ve never tried one, now is your chance! Professor Bryant Walker Smith will invite the winning group (up to eight people) to his home, where everyone will get to see, smell, prepare, eat, and take home the notorious/amazing durian.durian (1)

About the Auction

Please plan to attend the Faculty Auction, sponsored by Phi Delta Phi from USC School of Law.

The auction is divided into two portions: a live auction and a silent auction.  At the live auction, the faculty and staff auction off “experiences” such as trivia night, dinners or paddle boarding on Lake Murray.  The silent auction is comprised of items that are generously donated by members of the South Carolina Business Community.  You will see anything from gift cards to to nights out on the town to concert tickets.

When: Thursday, January 26, 2017 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Where: South Carolina State Museum

Who: USC Law faculty, staff, students, judges, and attorneys of the community

What: Live Auction featuring Auctioneer Joel Samuels and Silent Auction.  Heavy hors d’oeuvres and open beer & wine bar.

Casual Cocktail Attire

Tickets: $30 (Now – 01.21.17);   $35 (01.22.17 – 01.25.17);  $40 (01.26.17); $45 (At the Door ONLY)

All auction proceeds are donated to the James L. Petigru Public Interest Law Society Summer Fellowship Program.  This program places law students in volunteer positions during the summer. Thus, the students gain an invaluable experience while enriching the community through charitable work.  The University of South Carolina’s Pro Bono Program is a leader in volunteer activism, and the Summer Grant Program offers students the unique opportunity to dedicate themselves to pro bono endeavors full time during the summer months.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Phi Delta Phi Chair, Alicia Morris or Director of Student Affairs, Heather Beatty.
